現在、ビジネス界で話題になっているディープラーニングという人工知能技術は、ニューラルネットワークという人工知能技術を基盤に機能するものです。なので、ディープラーニングを理解するためには、まずニューラルネットワークを理解する必要があります。
■ニューラルネットワークとは？
ニューラルネットワークとは人間の脳を模したプラグラムです。人間の脳はニューロンという神経細胞がネットワークを形成し、ニューロン間を電気信号が流れることで「思考」を行います。
絵で書くと上のようになります。○がニューロンで、→が電気信号です。複数のニューロンが繋がり、その間を電気信号が流れます。電気信号を受け取ったニューロンは、受け取った電気信号に応じて、次のニューロンへと電気信号を流したり、流さなかったりします。
仕組みとしては、コンピュータの論理回路（AND,OR回路）に似ています。ただ、論理回路と違うのは、電気信号が0と1のデジタル信号ではなく、0.3や0.7などのような中間値をもつアナログ信号だという点です。また、ニューロン自体も、どのくらいの電気信号を受け取ったら、どのくらいの電気信号を次に流すか、という特性をバラバラに持っています。
■ニューラルネットワークによる画像認識
この仕組みを使ってどうモノの認識を行ったりするのか、画像認識を例に説明します。
まず目です。人間の目には光を感じ取る無数の細胞があり、この細胞が光を電気信号に変えて視神経に流します。コンピュータはこれをカメラで行います。ここでは仮に10×10の画素で撮影できるカメラがあったとします。カメラの画素はそれぞれ光の強さを0~255の数値で記録します。
次に、視神経～脳です。人間の目は視神経を介して脳へ電気信号を伝えます。コンピュータはこれを数値計算で行います。カメラのそれぞれの画素はそれぞれ一対の人工ニューロン（以降パーセプトロンと呼ぶ）に繋がっています。この最初のパーセプトロンは、画素から受け取った0~255の数値を入力値xとして、y=ax+bのような演算を経て、次のパーセプトロンに出力値yを渡します。これはそれぞれのパーセプトロン固有のaとbをもって計算されます。
そしてニューラルネットワークです。パーセプトロンは上の図のようにネットワーク状に繋がっています。それぞれのパーセプトロンは、前のパーセプトロンから受け取った出力値yの総和を入力値xとして、y=ax+bの計算を繰り返して、次のパーセプトロンへと数値を受け渡していきます。aとbはパーセプトロン間のそれぞれの繋がり（脳でいうところのシナプス）毎に固有の値を持っています。そして計算の果てに、最終的にある特殊なパーセプトロンへ数値が渡されます。この最終パーセプトロンにはそれぞれラベルが貼られています。例えば数字であったり、果物の名前であったり。これは人間で言うところの記憶に相当するものとなります。
例えば数字の認識をする場合、カメラの画素の値はいくつものパーセプトロンネットワークを介して、最終的に0～9のラベルのついた10個の最終パーセプトロンに繋がります。その10個の最終パーセプトロンに渡される数値は、総和すると1になる数値となります。例えば、上図のような画像をカメラで撮影したとして、最終的に1のラベルのついたパーセプトロンに0.91の数値が渡された場合、カメラで撮影した数字が1である確率が91%であるという認識になります。
このような計算をするプログラムがニューラルネットワークです。
